    fastest mirror

I'm a convert from Fedora Core and while I like Kubuntu better, one feature I miss is yum's fastest mirror plugin that determines the fastest mirrors for you before downloading updates. Is there anything like this for adept or apt-get?

    Yes, there is
    netselect
    Choose the fastest server automatically
This is netselect, an ultrafast intelligent parallelizing binary-search
implementation of "ping." You give it a (possibly very long) list of
servers, and it chooses the fastest/closest one automatically.
    BUT

    Bug #55671 in netselect (Ubuntu)
should find fastest ubuntu mirror not debian
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ect/+bug/55671

Here is how it work (in debian)
