The above fix had the minor downside of "losing" my Amarok playlists, which

have been acumulating for months now , since I began using Amarok long before

installing Kubuntu-desktop.

The easy fix for that was to simply swap the following two files :

/home/myusername/.kde/share/apps/amarok

swapped places with

/home/myusername/.kde_bad/share/apps/amarok

hope this might help some other Newbie sometime.
