OpenOffice UI AND text, Akregator feeds in "greek"

This problem I'm having started suddenly, and I had not made any system changes prior to this issue.

My OpenOffice and *some* (not all) of my Akregator feeds are in some language that looks like Greek. I say "looks like" because some of the words are readable as English. I cannot use these programs because of this issue.

I have checked in my system settings, my language is set to US English. I cannot change the settings in OpenOffice because I'm just not familiar enough with the menu to go to where I need to go by instinct. I have tried un-installing OpenOffice and Re-installing it. This does not fix the problem. I tried installing the packages from the OpenOffice website, this did not fix the problem. I tried fiddling with the OpenOffice configuration settings, no luck.

I tried opening the documents on my husband's computer, which also runs Kubuntu, and did NOT have this issue.

I am at a loss and am close to a panic because I am unable to do my homework without OpenOffice (Koffice and GnomeOffice won't help).

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

PS: I am attaching a screenshot. Thanks in advance for your help!

Strange indeed. As far as OpenOffice, go to Tools (Tooʎơ on yours)(I think). Go to the very bottom entry which should be options. A screen will appear. The third entry down is Language Settings. Click the "+" next to it and the first entry there is Languages. Hope that helps!

I'm afraid it didn't help, and actually the problem has gotten strangely worse. (I'm DreamyScribbler's husband.) Since she couldn't figure out what was wrong, I suggested she use my computer, which is also Feisty with OpenOffice 2.2. However, as soon as she opened the document she was trying to work with, the exact same thing happened to OpenOffice on my computer.

We suspect the document -- she takes online classes with ITT-Tech, which claims you can't take their classes with any platform but Windows. Since she's been taking these classes for a year now, we've proved that statement wrong. This is the first time we've had any trouble with accessing any part of her classwork.

That said, can anyone suggest what we might do to solve the problem?

I fixed the problem. What I did was reset all my system settings to the defaults. This has fixed the problem I was having. I don't know which setting was the culprit, but I'll figure that out eventually. Thanks for your help!

Glad to hear!! That is still strange, especially since that file did the same to your husband's system. Was that file one you received from the school?
