    media knightmare

when trying to play mp3's in amarok it it would load the file, say it was playing briefly, then go straight to the end without playing it.

a number of different files were tried.

    kaffeine did the same thing.

i then accidentally uninstalled kaffeine which uninstalled amarok with it.

now the package manager wont let me reinstall either. is there another way to install a media player with relevant codecs or force kubuntu to let me reinstall?

any help appreciated as i very new to linux.

go through this unofficial guide. Kubuntu does not come with codecs installed due to some patent and legal issues but it does not stop you from doing it manually . Look through the guide and you will see how to install codecs and just about anything else.
