Re: Firefox/ Opera
i tried to do all of the terminal stuff, but i kept getting the "bash" no file present stuff, and if you look at my screenshot firefox doesn't even show up in the add/remove program list, it is greyed out. i am at school now, but when i get home i will take a shot of the exact message i get.

Re: Firefox/ Opera
You should probably need to read some of the links above about installing software.
Or just read the official docs.
You don't need to do any "terminal stuff" to install firefox. But you can do at least three complete different things in the terminal to install firefox if you like.

Re: Firefox/ Opera
XDDDDDDDDDDD
I was not talking about your answer but the above post .
I'd like to know what kind of terminal stuff was he doing. And why he was expecting than downloading something from the net will change the fact that firefox is greyed or not in Add/Remove programs .
I believe that the problem is that the OP is not familiar with Linux way of installing programs. I even get the idea that he downloaded firefox from the mozilla web, do some terminal stuff, and expect it to appear in add/remove programs. i.e. he expected linux program installation to be like windows. And we know that it isn't .
BTW, the reason why firefox is greyed out is, very likely, because he has not enabled any repositories, nor updated them .
Javier.

Re: Firefox/ Opera
Firefox is in the standard set of repositories (Main), so that shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Firefox/ Opera
kubook-
The Linux/Debian/Ubuntu/Kubuntu method of installing software is different than Windows.
Here are links for installing software (official documentation) in Ubuntu.
Kubuntu Edgy: https://help.ubuntu.com/6.10/kubuntu...lications.html
Kubuntu Feisty (work in porgress, not complete yet): http://doc.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/add-applications/C/

Re: Firefox/ Opera
i typed subo apt-get install firefox and it said
building dependency tree.. done
package firefox is not available, but is refferred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
libnss3
E: Package firefox has no installation candidate

Re: Firefox/ Opera
I think it has to be a repos problem. Please tell me what version of Kubuntu you are using (Feisty, Edgy, Dapper), the country you are in (so you can find the best mirror) and list the contents of the file atCode:/etc/apt/sources.list
