    KAudio Creator encoder problem

When I run Kaudio Creator I get an error message that says

    No encoder has been selected.
Please select an encoder in the configuration.

    How do I do this?

    Re: KAudio Creator encoder problem

in KAudioCreator, go Settings > Configure KAudioCreator > Encoder and set things up.

I assume you want to encode to mp3s, in which case you must install an mp3 encoder. I suggest LAME. Install it by running
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install lame liblame0
in a terminal. You will need to have the multiverse repository enabled; there are MANY threads and other sources on the matter. Be aware that you may be violating patent laws by using LAME.
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.

      i'd suggest k3b as a front-end.
it's a lot faster than kaudiocreator and easier to use too.
      k3b encodes in ram.
kaudiocreator writes wavs to disk first, which slows things down quite a bit.
encoding backends are configurable in both applications.
before k3b i've always preferred grip over kaudiocreator.

        moreover...
if you pop in your cd in the reader and navigate it with konqueror,
you'll see that your music is already automagically encoded (ogg, mp3, flac...on a song basis or the full cd).
just copy the encoded files of your choice to the hd and your linux will do all by itself.
of course the default setting for the encoding might not be what you like.
but isn't this a handy feature?

Thanks for this idea. I like K3B much better than kaudio creator.

K3b to me is a burner program. I didn't even know it had ripping facilities, and then it took me some fiddling to find out how to use them, especially with no tooltip on the button to start ripping. So much for "easier to use"
