    Who the hell is Linda?

Just noodling around in the filesystem, looking for a file and I find I have a directory called /usr/share/linda, which has a subdirectory called overrides.

Who the hell is Linda, and why would she want to over-ride anything on my machine? There's a similar directory at the same level called lintian, which has a lot more overrides in it. Am I being paranoid?

You probably have 'linda' installed...from the package description:

Debian package checker, not unlike lintian
Linda is a Debian package checker, much like lintian, that
runs some rudimentary checks over source and binary packages
to see if they comply to Policy.

Linda has a greater featureset than Lintian, providing
(among other things) English descriptions, fully
translatable strings, and can print using different formats.

Ah-HA! Thanks. No, I don't have either Linda or lintian installed according to Synaptic; they may have been present on a previous incarnation of my system, though. Do I need them, or are they just for developers?

      Cheers.

Even with linda (or lintian) not installed, you may still have the override files under /usr/share/linda (lintian). The overrides are installed with their 'parent' software packages (blender override file is installed with the blender package etc.)

They are generally used by developers/packagers

Cheers, kubicle. I'll just leave things as they are, then.

          Thanks for your help.
