kmail- sending to outbox

I posted my previous comment in the Edgy section in error.
I thought that my problem had been solved but it appears only partly solved.
When I go to send an email, instead of sending, it gets sent to the "outbox". If I then right click and select "send queued messages it goes.
Is there something I have accidently changed to cause this and can it be corrected?

In the kmail configurations, under accounts, on the sending tab, "Default send method:" should be set to "Send now".

There's another setting there dealing with the outbox too, that should be "Never Automatically" by default

The situation now is that the email immediately goes to the outbox and is then (within a few seconds) sent
I have just checked those settings and both were selected.
I clicked the reset button just in case
