problem with /usr/bin/basename

hey guys,

I recently did an update(dapper) and it seems to have done something wrong with /usr/bin/basename program.
When i run basename i get "can not execute binary" error.
Because of this problem i can not run many programs such as mysql and openoffice.

Please help me out...

Please post your system's feedback to the following console (Konsole) command:

ls -l /usr/bin/base*

My reasoning: with this, we'll be able to check the "status" of the file in question.
