can i install kubuntu with the live cd?

Yes. Kubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) Desktop CD (the new name for the Live CD) allows you to install from the GUI.
However, there are limitations to this installation method. There is no support for RAID, LVM, and other installation options. This is just a very, very basic desktop installer.
I should warn you also that the installer will overwrite your MBR (on the first partition of the first hard drive a.k.a. hda1) automatically.
