    PCI Wireless Card

Can anyone supply a list of PCI wireless cards that work when WEP is enabled when using Kubuntu 6.06.

At the present I am using a new EDIMAX EW7128G wireless card which uses Ralink RT2561 chipset.

After much reading and fiddling I have managed to connect to the internet and download software from repositories but only if I disable security at the router and PC (WEP). When enabled it is possible to see the modem/router with wireless assist but impossible to connect. And no amount of configuring the network with WEP keys allows connection.

From what I can read I've come to the conclusion that some cards just won't work, to varying degrees, with Kubuntu 6.06 so I am willing to invest in a card that is know to function.

So guys if you have a list or just know of a card that works well please let me know.

Thanks for reading this and hope to be doing this on a secured Kubuntu system soon.

    welcome to kubuntu

have you tried using a cable to the router from the system just too set things up including WEP
then once set move over to the wireless setup ...

A cable connection is not an option on this machine since it does not have an ethernet socket.

Your comment is interesting, have you come across a case where it is possible to configure security with cable but not wireless?

        Re: PCI Wireless Card

I've set up two or thee wireless routers, and all of them recommend not setting up with wireless as you stand a chance of a dropout during the configuration process. It may be possible however. I should also add that I'm still learning, and doing things pretty much by the book, so someone with more experience may be able to help more.

Just a suggestion - try to use KNetworkManager instead of Wireless Assistant. For me - it works.

Kubaknopp can you tell me the make and model of the wireless pci card you are using. Knowing of a wireless card that works with WEP enabled will be a great help. Thanks

Ma card is old Netgear MA521 (pcmcia). At first it strongly refused to work with WEP enabled. Let's put it that way - my network was secured perfrctly. Nobody was allowed to connect. Including me :P I have solved it by KNetworkManager
