    Internet Connection Sharing Problems

I have two computers in my house. Heres the info about both of them.

    Computer 1

    OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    ISP: NetZero Dialup

    -Has Onboard Ethernet Port
    -Network Card Is Installed Properly

    Computer 2

    OS: Kubuntu 6.06 LTS
ISP: Trying to share internet with Computer 1

    -Has PCI Network Interface Card
    -Network Card Is Installed Properly

    -I have a crossover cable

I would like to share the internet with computer 1. I do not want to buy a router. Any tips?

    Re: Internet Connection Sharing Problems

On windows you should be able to right click on the connection icon and select sharing. With Kubuntu just configure you nic card as the default gateway. It shouldn't be too difficult.

    K>>Systems Settings>>Network Settings
    ~$sudo make me a sandwich

        Re: Internet Connection Sharing Problems

In Windows XP goto network places click on show all connections, right click on you dial up connection and select share this connection. You can set it up further here to how you want to share it but thats up to you.

IN Kubuntu goto Kmenu>>System Settings>>Network Settings, click on Administrator Mode and enter password. Click on your ethernet device to highlite and click on configure interface. That should be it.

After clicking on 'configure interface' click on 'advance settings'. Enter the ip of the Windows box in the gateway line.

                Re: Internet Connection Sharing Problems

You should not have to do anymore on the XP machine. Just make the default gateway on the Kubuntu box the ip of the XP ethernet card and the Kubuntu address is set to manual(static ip) not dhcp.

There are too many threads on the same subject at the same time.

No problem. It's just getting tough to keep both threads straight.

What type of modem do you have in your Kubuntu box. Is it external or internal, usb or serial, hardware or winmodem?
