We have a number of kubuntu PCs hooked up to a CentOS nfs server. The user and group IDs were setup on the server with the same ids set up on each client. We have a couple of the kubuntu client PCs that could not log on to the network and on closer inspection the ids in /etc/passwd have changed. For example one user had an id of 512 setup and used the PC fine for a few days then it wouldnt log on to the server and checking /etc/paswd found that id had changed to 4. How can this happen?
