    [SOLVED] Netgear WG311T problem

i installed Netgear WG311T, which should work out-of-box on dapper (tried both kubuntu and ubuntu) but it cannot get an ip address from the access point for some reasons.

    iwconfig/ifconfig shows it as ath0.

WG311T finds my AP without any problem, but it never connects it

all other machines (windows) can connect the AP just fines, but not (k)ubuntu...

on kubuntu, i tried both GUI and CLI ways but had no luck.
The AP has 64-bit WEP and i tried both hex and ascii - still no connection.

what can be the reason for not getting an ip address
do you have any idea to get online using the PCI card??

    thank you, in advance.

Netgear WG311T DOES work out-of-box on Dapper.
it was completely my fault. I "assumed" that a given WEP key as ASCII but it was actually in HEX... After I put the correct key using Wireless Manager, it worked flawlessly.

Is it possible that your AP is using MAC authentication as well as WEP? If youre using a new card then your MAC will have changed and your machine may not be allowed to connect.

thank you for your help, a_l_a_n.

actually the computer having a trouble is my friend's at his home.
since my laptop can connect to the network without giving my MAC address,
i believe that there is no MAC address authentication. (or is my assumption correct?? im using Intel 2200 BG card and it works fine)
