    SMC: found, but it doesn't work

    I have a SMC Wireless CardBus Adapter, model no 2835W V3 (version 3)

    I installed Kubuntu 6.06 on my laptop, and it looks like Kubuntu finds my wireless device.
    When I go to System Settings (KDE-menu) I click on "Network Settings".
    Their, I see this:
    Interface: eth0 , IP Adress (blank), Protocol: dhcp , State: Disabled , Comment: Wireless Network Device
    Here a screenshot of all of this:

    I installed SMC with ndiswrapper. The wiki said:
    Card: SMC2835W-V3

    * Chipset: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 [[[Prism GT]]/Prism Duette] (rev 01)
    * pciid: 1260:3890 (rev 01)
    * Driver: http://www.smc-europe.com/english/su.../2835W_V3.html
    * Other: Works with Fedora Core 3 - kernel 2.6.10-1.741_FC3 - ndiswrapper 1.0rc2; 54 Mbps, WEP (128 bit). I tried to get it working with the native prism54 linux driver, but it didn't work.

    1.
    * Chipset: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 Prism GT/Prism Duette? (rev 01)

    * pciid: 1260:3890 (rev 01)
    * Driver: SMC Europe http://www.smc-europe.com/english/su.../2802W_V2.html mode: ad-hoc with linux-station (acx111) - no wep speed: ~14Mbit (no MTU tuning or something else)
    * Other: Gentoo 2.6.8-r1, Ndiswrapper 0.10rc1+CVS@040820 Manual compile (not ebuild); worked for me after I reinit the driver with newly compiled version
    So normally, their wouldn't be any problems with this card.

    Back to the Network Settings:
    I have the option to "Configure interfaces". I click on that, and I see this:

    TCP/IP Address
    Automatic dhcp (I could chose Manual aswell, but I choosed the first option "Automatic dhcp")
    And this : "Activate when the computers start"
    Wireless Settings:
    ESSID: ZenoMagic
    WEP Key: <none> (I turned off my security, normally it's a WPA-PSK key)
    Key Type: ASCII

    Lookes fine, no?

    So when I try to "Enable Interface", it costs several minutes. Then the state change from "Disabled" to "enabled". But, just 5 seconds later, it's switched back to "Disabled"

    Any ideas how I get this card working?

    Sincerly,
    SJ

    Re: SMC: found, but it doesn't work

    If nobody can help me, can someone please say wich card will work under Kubuntu? Because, if necessary, I'll buy a new PCMCIA card, but the new one should work without using Ndiswrapper (so that new card MUST be plug&play)

    Are there any models know for their excellent prestations in Linux? Or any very good chipsets?

    Thanks!
