zero conf is not running

just loaded onto hard disk kubuntu.
zero conf will not run on hard disk loaded version.
so no network and no internet.
if booted from install cd and run from there can surf net fine
how do i get zero conf to run?
so basic pc and net work card must be ok
is there any firwall installed by default?

yes and no.all i want is to connect to the internert.
it works fine fromm the cd (linux) but not when installed.
run through a net work router 10.0.0.200
ip is set on pc 10.0.0.80 subnet255.255.255.0
gateway is set 194.168.4.100
this all apperars in the config networks on pc linux but will not ping or be pinged.
all advice is connect to internet and downl;oad but no good if you cant dowqnload.
