Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

Just so we are on the same page.

At this point if you lsmod in console do you see ndiswrapper listed?

in /etc/ndiswrapper/usr5421x you have the files with the exact names
    rndismpk.sys and usb8023k.sys

    Is this correct?

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

I am sorry that I haven't been successful so far. I wish I could have been more helpful.
You're trying to help me, and I thank you for that. I really mean this when I say something like this. That "you haven't been succesful so far" is not your fault.

And you're right. Linux is fantastisc and I'm very glad I had a friend who showed me the way to Linux.
And I'm much happyer that there are forums where you can ask for help and that someone try's to do so.

The last option... Isn't quite an option. The way to Windows is the way to virussen, errors, etc... But you are right, Linux has a lot of work to do in the way as Wireless and hardware-support. But offcourse, no system is perfectly. Neither Mac OS X, Windows or Linux. But a find Linux amazing.

Hmm, choosing an other distro may help (I read a lot since my first post here). But (indeed, there is a 'but' ) I hate downloading stuff from the internet, even harder when I most do this in Windows... The risc for virussen etc... It's to risky for me. :-)
And then again, I can only download 10 gb a month.

For now, I rather choose option 1 then the rest of those options. Just out of curiosity, why wasn't Knetworkmanager succesfull? Only because I haven't installed it with Adept?

Opie: That is correct indeed. Otherwise I wouldn't get "usr5421x driver present, hardware present" if I give the command "sudo ndiswrapper -l"
So indeed, that is correct. (and it was very difficult to get ndiswrapper going and installing those drivers)

Thanks everyone. And thanks for the help.

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

If you look at the page I sent you to to download knetworkmanager, you'll see the required packages. Many (most) of them are either already installed as part of Kubuntu or are installed as part of the knetworkmanager installation. But not all of them. To find out which ones you need, you'll need to read the response you mentioned when you tried to install knetworkmanager. In it, it explained which packages are missing. All of them will be available as .deb packages from the same site as the knetworkmanager package came from. You can download them and then put them in the same directory as you put the knetworkmanager...deb file. In that directory, you can run:
        Code:
        sudo dpkg -i *.deb
. That should install all of the packages and so knetworkmanager should be able to install once it sees the other pacakages are installed.

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

I thinks this is not going to be working...

I thank you for your time and excellent help, but I want to try something complete different.

Again (so sorry ) I looked at the wiki... I noticed that it says that only kernel number ... has problems with ndis-devices... But older kernels doesn't...

Hmm, this brings me on this idea:
I tried the stick on an very old test-computer. This computer isn't used normally, it's just way to old. I quickly installed an Ubuntu 5.10 on it. It has an "older" kernel, so... Let's see.
Plugd the device in, installed ndiswrapper, load the drivers...
            Restart.
Karabom! It worked! The lights are "awake" (or how do you say it?)

Then I turned of the encryption of the wireless router (standard it's encryption is WPA-PSK Tkip)

Wireless Assistant founds my wireless router, and ... It connected to it! In fact, I'm typing this with use of my Ubuntu 5.10 with THE USR-STICK!

So what I want to do now, is to downgrade my Kubuntu 6.06 to an Kubuntu 5.10, wich has an older kernel just like Ubuntu 5.10 has.

Two problems (again, I really hate problems right now. 8))

            1) where can I download an old Kubuntu-version? I don't have this anymore as an .iso on my harddisk, and neither the cd I have.

            2) I have an dualboot right now: Windows XP - Kubuntu 6.06
So I need to know how I can remove 6.06 and install an 5.10 on it... Any ideas?

            Thanks Randcoop for your help!

P.S.: I know that I'm running away from the problems with this new idea, but I really had enough of these problems. If I need an older version of Kubuntu, then so be it. I don't want any more problems anymore, and the new version has almost let my head explode.

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

I have found the solution for problem one:

              http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=02966#0

I only hope that the download-link is still working...

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

I just think about something... I haven't downloaded it yet (because I don't know how exactly I'm going to install it)

The only difference between version 5.10 and 6.06 is the kernel... Maybe I just can downgrade my 6.06-kernel to an 5.10-kernel without needing to download a whole distro again?

If this ain't possible, then I will just download Kubuntu 5.10...

EDIT: guess what... That link I showed, doesn't contain the download link anymore.

EDIT 2: Yes, I was able to found an website (an ftp-server) who is still offering the downloadlink for Kubuntu 5.10:
                http://ftp.litnet.lt/pub/ubuntu-cd/kubuntu/5.10/

Re: Wireless USB Stick, it isn't found...

I have downloaded it and installed it... The stick worked, until I restarted the pc... Boef, didn't work anymore... Back from the beginning: because the stick wasn't detected anymore, and ndiswrapper was still saying "driver present, hardware present"

I just had it. Enough is enough, I quit. I shall remove Linux from my pc, I just had it. No more console-work for me anymore. Na ah, not anymore! I can take it anymore. >

But my old laptop... That's the one who shall have Linux. There is now an Linux Kubuntu 6.06 installed on it. Works great! I will work much more on the laptop now then on the pc... Because the pc has the Windows on it.

Randcoop... You where very friendly towards me, thanks for that, I really appreciate what you've done for me. You did the best you could to help me out , but it didn't help.
No regrets, don't take the blame. You tried, and I'm thanking you therefor.

Randcoop, have a nice day! Thanks!
