I installed Kubuntu 6.06 release. Well.....tried to...! The graphic installer came as far as the screen with "prepare mount points". Due to my system having some 20 partitions the OK-button was completely OFF-SCREEN at the bottom and could not be reached. End of install.....
    Confirmed Bugreport # 48429

The 'alternative' Kubuntu version with its 'text-based' installer installed fine. Except that my NIC was not recognized after installation. I had to modprobe forcedeth to get going with my Nvidia Nforce3 250 chipset (which was correctly identified in ALL previous Dapper betas). Then I had to work for about two hours to get that system to my liking. Something that takes me about 2 minutes in Mepis 6.0 betas. Mepis 6.0 will be released around June 18.
I have great respect for the Unbuntu developers, but Mepis 6.0 performs better. And is better configured.

I intend to keep Kubuntu 6.06 installed. It cuurently co-exists in a multiboot situation with Mepis 6.0beta3, Mepis beta4 and old SphinxOS 4.5. The 6.0 betas will be removed after I install the Mepis 6.0 release.

Re: "Mepis going ubuntu" (well...Kubuntu actually)

    oblio,

Regarding your NIC trouble... Did your NIC not show up in lspci? If it did and it is the Davicom / tulip chipset, then I think you can fix that pretty easily.

    Check this:
    http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186430

I have had trouble with the Live CD Installer too. It has not completed an installtion for me. I hope I just got a bad download. I am currently using the old 5.10 CD to install Ubuntu, then adding Kubuntu desktop package, and then upgrading to 6.06 from that.

Warren has done a great job with Mepis and I sure hope that his success continues! It is I could have probably fixed my earlier troubles with my NIC in Mepis with the above fix, but I didn't know of it until afterwards. I will try Mepis again I am sure, but the Ubuntu and Kubuntu forums are top notch!!

      NIC: No, no tulip thing.
I have an Asus K8N AMD64 mobo with Nvidia Nforce3 250 chipset. It uses the forcedeth driver. All Dapper betas identified my hardware correctly and used the forcedeth driver, but not the released 6.06....

No one ? The problem I have with Kubuntu 6.06 LTS (no eth0 up automatically) is still there.
I have to manually insert the default gateway IP, disable the eth0 network, enable it again and then the network comes up. Adding forcedeth into the modules file doesn't work either, as (after a reboot) the network still won't come up. Okay, it's not a big problem. But enough to drop Kubuntu 6.06 LTS.
