    eth1, not wlan0?

I installed ndiswrapper, and when I do "ndiswrapper -l" it says my driver and hardware are present. However, when I do "iwconfig" my card is listed as "eth1" instead of "wlan0". After setting my ESSID and the mode to Managed, I used "dhclient eth1". But it wouldn't work :\

Any ideas? Why is it eth1? How do I make it wlan0?

    [edit]
I got it to come up as "wlan0" by editing /etc/iftab
But I still can't do things like "iwlist wlan0 scan". It says "wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning: no such device"

    Re: eth1, not wlan0?

Just installed Kubuntu today and joined the forums for this EXACT problem; my card is showing up in iwconfig as eth1, and any attempts to enable it fail. I haven't tried editing iftab, but I get the feeling it'll be the same as airjoe's situation.
My card is a WPC54G v1. I have used ndiswrapper for this card before on another Linux distro (Arch), and didn't have too many problems setting it up. Any help would be appreciated!

I can't even get so far as to see wlan0, so KDE network manager only has eth0 and eth1; and eth1, which is listed as a Wireless Networking Device, cannot be activated. And my card is an external one, so there is nothing on the laptop to interface with it.

          Re: eth1, not wlan0?

          Solved my problem!
I can't dig up the site again, but I found an old forum post detailing my problem, which had to do with my WLAN chipset (Broadcom 43xx). Apparently Dapper tries to install its own module for it which conflicts with ndiswrapper. To solve this, edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and add the line "blacklist bcm43xx". Rebooting and reinstalling the driver in ndiswrapper and I'm up and running wirelessly! Although my card is still as eth1, but thats not too much trouble.

as much as I do not want to ask this question I guess I'm going to have to... please forgive my newbness with linux but where can I get a download of "ndiswrapper".

It seems I am haveing all the same problems with my wireless situation on my 64bit laptop zv6209us HP
hopefully just installing this will fix my problem. Otherwise I will continue my search for a fix Thnx in advance

Yeah I would have posted sooner but unfort, I been a lil busy. anyways it refuses to work for me. I have went through countless help files but I cannot get it to install. However on another note, I do happen to have found the actual drivers for the wireless card. If there is a way to update drivers or maybe even edit, I would lve any kind of input.
