ethernet down after 1 minute

Hello,

As the name suggests, I am an absolute newbie to Linux. Install went well, but when I connect to ethernet - to switch and to DSL modem, it connects for almost exactly 1 minute, and then drops. When pinging the internet, it comes up unreachable. Ifconfig looks normal, with DHCP address in there. I tried changing it to static, same results. If I unplug the ethernet cable, wait a few seconds, plug it back in, I get another minute. Any thoughts?

hi,

Can you tell us what is the model of network card or chipset you use ? I get almost the same with a marvell gigabit card... So I think it's a bug.

I got this from KInfoCenter...the computer was given to me, and there are no labels on the nic...here goes:

0000:00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Davicom Semiconductor, Inc. 21x4x DEC-Tulip compatible 10/100 ethernet (rev 31)

I have another nic that I can put in....what is the process to install new hardware? Does Kubuntu automatically detect new hardware? Or, if there is another solution that would be great too.

IT WORKED!! I had to use a different text editor, as gedit was not installed, but it worked....COOL
