Sharing: success in connecting WiFi on Broadcomm (BCM43xx)

Hi,

Just install the Kubuntu 6.06, used NDISWRAPPER to load the WiFi driver.

Instead of going throuh the System Settings, I use Wireless Assistant 0.5.5 and my connection to the wireless router is up.

Hope it help for those who might be struggling.

Great distro, but ease of use wise, I prefer Mandriva.

what is "wireless assistant" and where did you find it also, i'm assuming that you need to use ndiswrapper still as well as wpa_supplicant for WPA encryption, correct

nevermind I found wireless assistant. okay now, i'm still having problems with this. I don't use dhcp so wlassistant is useless to me. the driver is loading, but i'm getting this error.

one more thing i forgot to mention...

instead of the interface showing as wlan0 it shows as eth1. this was the way it was configured when i installed the Dapper.

Had no luck with the bcm43xx. It hangs after some minutes. So went back to ndiswrapper with the latest bcmwl5.sys driver and all is fine.

In the file /etc/iftab the interface mac's are connected to the ethx names.

There you can hookup your mac to the wlan0 name.

Hi,

You need to blacklist the original driver.
Than use NDISWRAPPER to install the Win32 driver.
Than issue ndiswrapper -m to include in modprobe.
Than use wireless manager to manage connect to any available WLAN.

That my procedure, hope it works for you.
