    Network printing problem

I'm trying to print to an HP1012 on my windows computer from my kubuntu computer. I have defined the printer on the kubuntu box in the wizard as an smb windows printer and associated it with the proper driver. After defining the printer, I see a little printer icon on the right of the INFORMATION tab of the Printer Settings page. The "state" of the computer is listed as Idle (accepting jobs). However, when I try to print a test page, the job processes for a few seconds then queues. After that the printer icon has a red x through it and the state is listed as Stopped (accepting jobs).

On the offensive windows computer, I have established all the necessary permissions, have even changed ownership of the share to me. No luck.

I should add that the HP1012 computer is connected to the windows machine via usb, but that shouldn't make any difference from across the network.

    What am I doing wrong?

    tia,

I use the kde printing system, you need to have the printer working on both operating systems. With cups it just will work, but you have to install the windows drivers too. When adding the printer to cups, I just used the ip of the windows computer to tell cups where is the remote printer.

check and make sure hplip is installed. in system settings under printer, when you add a printer, i chose smb connected. scan the network, find the computer, and when it comes time to install the driver, select the driver with hpijs. if you don't get an error message then you are on your way. when you do a test print, don't click ok until it has printed. otherwise it may not print. let us know if this works. like you, i have also had problems with my hp psc1610 multi-purpose, until 15 minutes ago. LOL, that is why i am letting you know how i just got it up and running.
