RT2500 Setup problems... Again!!

In orderto get this pcmcia card working under Breezy I had to install Ubuntu, set it up (piece of cake), and then install the kde packages to get the Kubuntu experience.

Now, having installed Dapper Flight 4 for Kubuntu on another partition, I findmyself still not being able to set the card up to work.

I have configired my connections, and both leds on the card are lit, but I am unable to even make a connection to the router.

I don't really want to have to install Ubuntu to get things going.

Hi,

You should compare the /etc/network/interfaces between breezy and dapper to see what changed. Maybe it's the trouble...
If you don't find, you can try to copy the output of :
ifconfig -a
cat /etc/network/interfaces
(if wireless) iwconfig

/etc/network/interfaces was different, so I added the missing wireless sections to the Dapper version.

Still does not work.

Interface does not start-up even during boot.

Sorry... started out thinking that they were seperate issues (that will be the nube in me)...

Continuing this thread as I think the original problem is that there are FAILs in startup which are causing the card not to work.

I have done a bit of digging and have discovered that if I type...

sudo ifup ra0

I get a message saying that the file /etc/network/interfaces, cannot be read.

I have checked this file between this system and a working Breezy system and the files are the same, and have the same permissions set.

I did commands in your other reply and the card is listed, but as the two setups exist on different partitions of the same machine I do not know how to add them here (ie saving output as a text file, changing systems, then mounting another partition to retrieve the file). What in particular would you be looking for?

Any further ideas?

Basically I was looking for information to see if the the card was recognised during the bootup phase. I have seen another thread referencing a similar type RT2500 but I cannot remember where I saw it

The error during the bootup could be because your system cannot connect to Ubuntu time server

Post the outputs of following , you will need to be at Console prompt.

sudo ifconfig -a
lspci

It may be significant, but throughout all this there was no led activity on the card.

And as I said before, if I type "sudo ifup ra0"

I get an error stating that /etc/network/interfaces cannot be read, even though the permissions are set exactly the same as a working Breezy system.

both NIC are being seen, what is not happening, is that the system does not seem to be seeing the DHCP server are shown by dhclient output, I have seen times where it does not catch the first time, but!!

Sorry to be a pain but repeat the command if you do not get a lease the first around. I have got no real explanation for this behaviour.

About the error it's a trouble I have also on dapper but my wifi always come up...
