Internet connection with Kubuntu 6.10 and USB modem

Hi,
I'm trying to get my adsl internet connection working. I have Kubuntu 6.10. But all the help I found online are about ethernet modems. Do I have to get a new modem that connects to my network card or is it possible to use my current adsl modem connected to the USB port?
What are the steps I need to take in order to connect to the internet via a USB modem? I am an absolute beginner to this. So any help is highly appreciated

as it has been mentioned many, many, many times on this forum if you were to read it, usb modems are not supported. You will need to get yourself an ethernet set up.
