if i stick in my cd kubuntu 6.06 and there is already xp on one partition, and an unalocated second partition, will kubuntu do the right thing and load into the unalocated partition or just wipe out my xp partition, I would like very much not to lose xp because of games but everything else I want to run on kubuntu

Re: the question most newbies think
Kubuntu will find and it will ask you where you would like to install, if you choose to, it will install into the unallocated partition.
During install you will also have the opportunity to manually point to the correct location if you want to.

Re: the question most newbies think
thanks, you were right, just create an unallocated partition(I just split the drive in two with partition magic) boot on the cd, install and choose unused space. Now wheneven I press F8 on boot it offers me the choice of XP or kubuntu
all showing that one doesn't have to switch to kubuntu and one doesn't have to lose XP in doing so,every day is a gift
