Installed Kubuntu 6.06 will not boot after working for several weeks.

Installed Kubuntu and SimplyMepis on a MCE AMD64 machine (K8NGM) using 2.6.15-386 kernels. Windows MCE works perfectly. Neither Mepis or Kubuntu will boot from the hard disk. Mepis will boot from the Live CD. The Kubuntu stalls at the uncompressing message using the CD. It Stalls at the Harware drivers message using the HD. Kubuntu safe mode does the same as normal mode.

Installed Studio64 (386) successfully but It will not boot from the HD either. XP is still fine. MNLive (386) will install but the Display driver for the TV will not sync.

    Memory Tests pass.

    Hi,

You should try to modify the line of boot to delete quiet and splsh from the boot line, for this :
When you're getting to grub, press 'e' on the line you want to start,
    On third line, press 'e'
Then go to the end of the line and remove "quiet splash" from this line, press "enter"
    finally press 'b' to boot

When it stall please give the error you get.

    Cheers

Thanks for the info ---. It has all become moot as the Bios is no longer seeing the HD's. The CDROM still works but Kubuntu 6.06.1 and Alternate CDs still will not boot. The SimplyMepis CD works. I've tried Unbutu 6.10 and 6.0.6.1 alternate without success. I think it is a BIOS problem.

This really sounds like a hardware problem. BIOS's don't just go bad. It sounds like either the drive or the controller has problems.
