Splash screen freezes at start up

    Hi folks,

I installed some SW over the weekend on my box was working fine. When I turned it on this morning, I got the first splash screen (driver loading) to run OK but when it changes to the second splash screen, then it freezes and stays there. All I can do is go to term and shut it down.

I have a feeling it's something simple but I'm not a Linux expert, so any help would be appreciated. I'd reinstall as a last option.

    Thanks!

It is rarely, if ever, neccessary to reinstall Linux, If I were faced with your situation, I'd be suspicious of the apps that I had just installed. Did they over-write some configuration file? Did they over-write one of the files involved in the boot process? Did you sign off on some message that said that it was going to do something to the Xserver?
