Re: Safe to install Edgy?
If you don't have a need for the new features and you are not comfortable configuring your machine with little or no assistance, leave it alone and wait for the release. If you are comfortable sorting out configuration issues and need/want the latest go for it. I did mine yesterday. I had to do a little fooling around (xorg.conf, smbmnt, etc) but today I have mine working to my satisfaction. I am a little disappointed with some of the Firefox UI changes, but I suppose that I will get used to it or appropriate extensions will be released to replace the functionality that I had before. There is a howto in the forums. I used the method labeled alternate as the official did not work for me.

Of course, upgrading to a new release version might not always go smoothly even after the release, but the chances of it are better. Don't be too scared though, 99% percent of dist-upgrade mishaps are recoverable. And the forums should always help you if you run into problems (provided you have a method of accessing them if your system fails to boot up properly after an upgrade)
