Ok so last night I decided to completely revamp my linux rig. Using parts that I have had and parts I picked up from another forum I frequent, I decided to rebuild it and make it better, faster, stronger.
Asus P4P800 E-Deluxe
P4 2.8
XP90 with a Panaflo M1A
8x random 80mm fans (overkill most likely but it is quiet other then the whooshing of air)
1gb Pc 3200
PC&C 510 (non sli)
BFG6600GTOC AGP
2x Seagate 160GB drives (going to be Raid 1)
1x WD 120GB in a Coolermaster Cooldrive 4
Pioneer DVR-710 Dual Layer DVD+- burner
So get everything up and running and completely stable. Throw in the preburned Memorex black CD with Kubuntu Drake and away I go, right? WRONG
DVR-710 seems to have gotten confused, scrolls down my screen...
Hmm maybe the CD is dirty, pull it out, clean anything I see and toss it back in the drive.
DVR-710 seems to have gotten confused, scrolls down my screen...
ARGH!
Ok fine, pull out a Memorex CD and relaize that I have to pull the entire Alternate CD down again.
Wake up this morning and burn the CD, all is well! WRONG
DVR-710 seems to have gotten confused, scrolls down my screen...
ARGH!
Pull the exact same model out of my gaming rig and throw it in (I KNOW this drive works, I use it often)
set everything back up, away I go!
DVR-710 seems to have gotten confused, scrolls down my screen...
WTF! %()%&($*&%@#(*#$)(@#$
After 5 minutes of cussing out the computer, I try a different IDE cable. Same error message again.
Is it possible that Pioneer doesnt like Linux and has something in their firmware that refuses to let it work with Linux? I turn to you, the people who know much more then me about Linux, to explain to me why this drive will not work with Linux.
