Installation woes

When trying to install Kubuntu on my machine I get the following error when I come to manually edit the partition table:

Critical error during ped_disk_new!

I am puzzled?

Can somebody please help, I am fairly new to all of this..

how about some more info like:
what partitions are you trying to make?
how many hdds are you using?
dual or single boot?
