partition trouble plzzz help

I was trying to install linux in 10 a gb unformatted partition and entered the option to manually create a partition but on the next screen the create partition didi not become ACTIVE did not highlight !!!
so where's the problem
is it because that it is a logical partition rather than an extended one
apart from this does an option come come which asks where to install the Grub
plz help me out
i willl be grateful

hi,

Not sure what you're asking... Anyway, if it's a problem with partitionning the disk, you should have less trouble with the alternate cd, it's in text mode, but as easy as in graphical mode...

well I need to ask that whether i need an extended partition or a logical one will do because while installing when i clicked on the "manually edit partition" the "create" tab did not become active

I don't remember how it works... But I think you have to click where you want to create the partition and click create.... Maybe before it's not available.
Anyway did you try how to use the alternate cd ?

please tell me about the alternate cd install

and the point "sky" made that one needs to 1st click on the partition and then the create tab will become active ,i have done this but the create tab doesn;'t become active on any of the partitions what should i do ?
please help i am just getting exhausted!!!!!!!!!
and please tell that what is the filesystem of /boot and how to installl grub in it rather than in the mbr.

Hi,

In fact, when you're going on kubuntu website, you select download, then choose your country, and in the list you should find images of alternate and live desktop, no ?

About trying to help you with installer I will have troubles... Because it's long time ago I ran it. sorry. But I'm almost sure you will have less troubles with the alternate cd... If you can't find a solution to this, maybe wait few weeks, next release of kubuntu will be official during this month (edgy eft) so maybe installer will be fixed...

Finally, about the grub install, I don't know if you can avoid it to be installed on the mbr, anyway, it shouldn't bother you, as you would be able to recover your windows mbr if needed from the command line in windows as I said above.

it probably didn't high light because it is not formatted. I ran into that once myself. I deleted the partition and tried [create] again and it worked.
