[question] removing usplash and using normal splash?

    Howdy
Tried searching, but all I could find was normal "change usplash this and that" threads.

I would like to have a more "normal" splashscreen, something like we have in archlinux and gentoo.

Any suggjestion on how to do that?
(yes yes, vga=794 etc. but im thinking of the "propper" background and/or "header").

Not sure if I understood what you want correctly, but you can 'remove' the usplash screen (and get the basic text mode boot up) by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst

Remove the 'splash' boot option from the kernel(s) you wish:

    The line is something like:
    /vmlinuz-2.6.XX-XX-XXX root=XXXXX ro quiet splash
