Sudden Inexplicable Shut Down in 6.06

I've given the forum a cursory once over to see if my problem has been discussed, but haven't seen anything, so here goes.

I recently re-installed Kubuntu to test it out on a faster (but still older) Dell laptop. I've noticed an odd situation that occurs periodically (and, if memory serves, roughly around 2:00 am each night): no matter what task I'm performing - checking email, surfing the web, or downloading updates through Adept - the computer will suddenly and without apparent reason just shut off. It's not a power issue - the laptop has either had a charged battery or been plugged in.

Is this an issue with 6.06? I thought it might be some of the laptop power settings so I turned them all off, but the problem persists.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

As a fellow night-owl, I'd suggest checking your crontab (with kcron). There may be something scheduled to happen at 2 AM (after all No One is using their computer THEN) that is screwing up your system. Personally, I rescheduled all my maintenance tasks for 6-8 AM.
