    kubuntu not booting "noscreen found"

just got back from hunting and my computer won't boot. I can boot to recovery mode and try #startx and it gives back [no screen found]. So I boot using live cd and everything works. Apparently my wife has been using the computer with no problems while I was away and then there was a power outage. My ups did not work [time for a new one] the box shut down with no battery backup. I don't know if this had anything to do with the problem or not. I did edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to add some lines in order to use transparency. the lines are at the end of the file. I can comment them out if I knew how to edit from command line. I doubt that this has anything to do with it since I rebooted with no problem after making that change.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks I will try that. in the mean time I have found the problem. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf file has bad ending. Instead of last line being "end section" it is "end".

How can I edit the file via command line or via live cd.

Re: kubuntu not booting "noscreen found"

if you do the above it will reset the xorg.conf file to its defaults
once you are back into the system you can then edit it ...

Thanks, that worked fora minute or two. I was able to login normally. I then edit the xorg.conf backup file and re-saved it as xorg.conf. now I am getting xsession cannot write to /tmp. xserver may exit with errors. I then have to login failsafe mode and get the same error plus kde could not read network connection list blah blah make sure the dcopserver is running. I searched forum for help with this one but there isn't any I could find.

What is happening with the dcopserver and how do I fix it.

you could try as above in recovery mode but use this instead ...

              dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

              follow the on screen instructions
reboot and see how you get on ...
