Putting Kubuntu System on New Disk

I am running Kubuntu Dapper Drake and am happy with my installation. Unfortunately, the hard disk that it's installed on is only about 8GB. I have a 160Gb disk that I would like to use instead. What is the most efficient way to transfer my system + data to the larger disk? The larger drive has no data that I need to save, so I could reformat and repartition it, if that would help with the problem. I have the third party utility "Drive Copy" by PowerQuest, but it is several year old and the one time I tried to copy a Windows system to another drive I couldn't get the new drive to boot. I'm looking for a Kubuntu method of accomplishing the same thing, if possible.

As an alternative, is it possible for the system to "span" two hard disks, i.e., have the basic partition "extend" to the new drive? If so, how is this accomplished?

If this question is in the wrong forum, please move it to the correct forum.

    TIA.

you could always install the new drive and just move your home partition to this drive
leaving /root on the smaller drive
