    Installation - IBM thinkpad 760E

I have an old IBM Thinkpad 760E. I have re formatted, and installed DOS with the intention of loading Kubuntu as the operating system.

This laptop came with both an internal floppy as well as an internal CD rom drive, but they cannot be connected at the same time. The Cd rom is an IDE ATAPI and the appropriate driver has been installed.

The problem is that when I try to boot / install Kubuntu from the cdrom it does not recognise the cdrom.

I thought of using Smart Boot Manager from floppy to facilitate booting up, however, unless I’m missing something, from what I can see this would only work if the floppy drive and cd rom drive where connected the same time.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help!

I've played this game, and it's a real pain, but seing as you are installing fresh, try installing Smart Boot Manager to the hard drive, the select the cdrom from there.

If this fails you can use the netboot image from the alternate install cdrom via PXE.
