    Locked after update

Hey, everything was grand then I updated x-server 'cause the OS said there was an update. This was the ONLY file/subsystem updated. Now, kaput. Locks after hardware initization. I changed the nvidia to nv in xorg.conf with no luck. how can I uninstall the update? Thanks

I've updated before this, and it's been running flawless for about 2 months.

    Re: Locked after update

There was a bug in the update, it caught a lot of people, including myself, by suprise. It has been fixed though. Boot into recovery mode, then enter

    apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core

    then reboot

P.S. If you find any other posts with a similar problem, please spread the word.

Yeah, I did a forum search and found nothing. However, after my post I saw a couple of threads down how to downgrade it. The downgrade worked.

Yes, I WILL spread the word. I am just glad I've four computers, and could find it. Otherwise I'd be farked.

I may have spoken too soon. Reinstalling worked for me, but others are saying there systems are still unbootable. What a mess. As you said, downgrading may be the best option for some, at least untill this is all sorted out.

Yeah, after utilizing the command you gave, it fried again. I repeated the downgrade and I am back..

No frets, all in the interest of OpenSource. This OS seems to be more streamlined than any .deb distro I've used.

I built this box for two purposes. MAME, and research. Fedora Core 5 ran MAME like crap; yes proper nVidia drivers installed. SuSE did not like x-mame at all. MePIS ran glxgears like a frog; normally a GRAND OS though. We will not even talk about Mandrake/Mandriva.

Anyrate, Kubuntu is fast, straight forward, and the best OS I've found for my purpose. I hope they fix the x-server boggle, and if not I'll just remember to exclude it from the upgrades.

          -cheers-
