Hangs after Loading items

Hi, im VERY new to this Kubuntu thing, and I ran the live part, absolutely love it. So i went to install, and It loads the kernel and loads the first set of things, the screen refreshes then goes here:

I let it sit there for abotu 25-30 minutes a few times.......could it possibly be the CD? I ran checksum and its OK.

I tried ACPI=off and it still did the same thing, Im confused.

HELP!!

Thanks.

I get exactly the same problem on my new laptop (Acer Aspire 5652), no idea why as the same disk worked fine on my old laptop...so, like you I'm searching for the answer!

Are you using an ATI card. The reason I ask is this is similar to a problem I used to have. I fixed it by carefully following the directions here...

If not, please post as much info on your system as you can.

Not wishing to hijack r3sil3's thread but thought it would be useful for all. My old (samsung) laptop had an ati card, the new one has the following specs:

Intel Core Duo Centrino 1.66GHz
1024mb DDR2 RAM
15.4 WXGA (1280 x 800) display
nVidia GeForce Go7600 256 dedicated video
Intel 945PM Express chipset with 667MHz FSB
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Card Reader
Digital TV-tuner supporting DVB-T (not sure of model)

See http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/acer-asp...aptop-1-n2.htm for full details. Any help greatful, using SuSE at the moment.

Upon further reflection on current events, it is most likely not your graphics card, but a problem with a buggy xserver-xorg-core update that came out yesterday. To fix it, reboot your computer. When you see Grub loading, press esc. Boot into recovery mode. Type...

apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10

and hit enter. If you get a warning about downgrading, select "y" and continue. After the new (old) X has installed, type reboot and hit enter.

If kubuntu loads normally, X was the problem. On your taskbar, you will see an update icon. If the xserver update is version 0ubuntu10.4, it should be safe to update. If it is an older version, avoid it like the plague and weight for your local mirror to update to 10.4.

Hi Josh
Thanks for your info. I was just going to publish a call for help when I read this post. Your description of the reason for the hangup fits what happened to me. I upgraded and now have the problem described by r3sil3. When I get back to my computer in a few hours time I'll try your fix.
One question remains. What should I now do about upgrade packages? When will a correction be made and how will we know that it is safe to upgrade?
TIA

The fix has been released, and I'm pretty sure mirrors have been updated by now.

The bugged version is: xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3
The fixed version is: xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.4
