    Hanging at Enterprise Volume Management

I updated Kubuntu last night, and after rebooting, it hung at "Starting Enterprise Volume Management System" . . . I let it sit all night, still hung there. I've searched the forums for a similar problem, haven't found anything. I tried restarting, which didn't help, also restarting in recovery mode with the current kernel, also still hangs at the EVM loading. I have not yet tried reloading Kubuntu or recovery mode and choosing the older kernel. If I am going to have to reinstall Kubuntu, that's hardly any better than running Windows, is it? Also, is Enterprise Volume Management necessary for a system on a small home LAN? Can I somehow stop this service from running every time it boots? I also get a failure in RAID every boot, and there is no RAID on this system, so I'd like to disable this as well.

    Thanks,

    Rez

Re: Hanging at Enterprise VOlume Management

If it makes any difference, the system is Dell Optiplex GX110, PIII 933, 512MB RAM, 10GB HD . . . Kubuntu was installed and running fine off a Dapper 6.06 LiveCD, had been running for days with no problems until I ran the updates last night. I don't remember choosing anything about EVM in the updates, I was trying to get MP3's to play, so mostly I was installing xine, xmms, stuff like that. Maybe I have a problem with my repositories, because some of the sites I was looking at said to install the w32codecs package to fix the not playing mp3's thing, but I could not find this package in kadept.

Tried recovery booting into the older kernel as well, no joy.

Well, I'm not getting any help here. Maybe it's time to blow it away and try SUSE.
