    LiveCD a bit...disturbing

Is it just me or does anyone else here find the inital dialog on the LiveCD a bit disturbing? You know the one, the little "Windows Look Alike" dialog that pops up with a progress bar for a second.

I find it a bit disturbing that its a windows (2kish) skin clone being used for that.

It's not as half as disturbing as the gconf-editors similarity to regedit

No seriously, anything that can ease a persons mind when entering into the minefield that is your first linux install, small pieces of eye candy that make you think it is going to behave how you may expect it too, help increase the tolerence of the differences that will inevitably be encountered later on, plus it gives a more polished look than lines of scrolling code.

There is a difference between simple eye candy, and a direct rip off. The dialog was obviously designed to directly mimic the look of a windows themed dialog, to what purpose? If they think people need that theme to feel 'at home', why not make that the default theme of the OS once its booted up? Rather than just that one dialog. It makes no sense.

Not to mention that the theme shown is the old win2k theme, where as most of the converts are using XP so the 'at home' feel would be best suited from the real default (XPish) theme! It makes no sense and is a bit disturbing.

Although it doesnt make the OS any less great, it is like a blister that serves no purpose.
