Kubuntu Doesn't Recognize My CD Drive

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I am having the same problem with the detection of my CD-ROM drive. I've tried and cannot find (DriverGuide.com, Google search etc...) linux drivers for this ancient equipment I'm trying to use (CyberDrive 120D).
I'm a beginner when it comes to linux, although the command line doesn't scare me (started with DOS 3.0 back in the age of dinosaurs) [marsupials scare me... because they're fast]. The equipment all works fine, I've been playing around with different OS. This same equipment has run DOS, most flavors of Billy's OS (3.1,95,98,NT,server2003) as well as Smoothwall (yeah I know its not an OS but it uses a linux kernal) and a bunch of other odball ones I won't list here (ever hear of minuet?).
Even if I don't get this going I would really like to know why this is working out this way. What I don't understand is why I can boot from this CD, run the linux kernal & start the installation etc... but when the OS doesn't find a "common" CD-ROM the whole show grinds to a stop (none of the models on the manual list work with this CD drive either, I've tried). The OS was reading from it just fine until that point, and it happens every time. I'm kinda at a loss here, is there a work-around? Perhaps a standard or generic driver?

    Hi,

It's quite weird to see such a thing, it's installing from it and after you're loosing it ?
I guess you don't need any driver else than the standards compiled in the kernel.
Do you have links like /dev/cd* ?
In fact, what are you trying to do and is not working ? Place a cd inside and close the tray, then no windows are opening to ask what to do ?

    Good luck
