    alternate installation guide

I have an alternate instal cd for dapper because I wanted a little more control over the install process than the live CD offers.

While I actually liked the debian sarge/ 5.1 install system, the alternate instal cd options confuses me at times, espeacially using the advance option.

I've looked for man pages or an instal guide, official or unofficial, and all I can find are 5.1 install guides or dapper post instal procedures.

I've looked in google and in the forum, maybe I missed it.

Can any point out a manual or guide on that walks through the alternate install process and explains the options/ choices?

    Thanks

      Thanks for the link.

The link provides information for the "normal" alternate install method, which I did not find difficult.

However when the alternate cd is booted, the screen offers several options, such as checking the cd.

When the "expert" option is chosen by hitting F6 (I called this the advance option in the first post) a more detailed instal menu is available.

For example, a choice is provided between English UTF8 and En_AU in the language section, and in the CD Rom section it offers a choice that will speed up the reading of packages.

Whilst I don't want anyone to help me with those two examples in this thread, I would like to find a guide or man pages to help with the expert alternate instal.

Maybe there's a reason that it is called expert but I would like to find any documentation if it exists.

      Thanks

          Re: alternate installation guide

A whole install manual is not required by all of us folks who have for various reasons have had to use the expert install option. A list of the options with what they do and how to use them would be helpful. As an example there is listed on the install cd the option of vga=771, well I know that that is to force a 800x600 screen. OK , I have a native 1024x768 LCD monitor and any other resolution other than 791 or 792 just displays a portion of the page without the ability to scroll or move the text to allow inputs. Can I specify 791 or 792 and have my monitor installed at that resolution? There are other options I would like see explained also- maybe they would help with other problems.

When you have your linux on a USB drive like myself the expert install option becomes your friend.
