Audio problem after Kubuntu Dapper Update

    Hi,

I have installed from Breezy to Dapper with Kubuntu, but suddently I have no access to the sound card (no mixer is found). If I run alsamixer I get

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    lsmod | grep snd

    returns:

    snd_pcm_oss 52704 0
    snd_pcm 88840 1 snd_pcm_oss
    snd_page_alloc 10600 1 snd_pcm

Re: Audio problem after Kubuntu Dapper Update

The thing that I don't see in your "lsmod | grep snd" output is a sound driver. Of course, that could simply mean that your hardware's module just isn't named snd_*, but if your lspci output has a line about AC'97 compatible whatever, you have a problem.

Other than that I am clueless. The new kernel SHOULD have picked up your sound card and installed the proper module(s). I must admit that I once went two or three kernel updates on Debian Sid without sound. I just kept the old musically talented kernel until I got to an upgrade where the sound worked again.
