ctr + alt + f7 at boot up

I hate to sound like a total newbie but why do I now have to press ctrl + alt + F7 to get to the login screen.
I have updated and installed a few programs as well as the addons and firefox plugins using easyubuntu.
on fresh install i did not have to do this.
is there any way to get rid of this?
