WinXP boot crash after every Kubuntu boot

I hope no-one minds me posting this in the Kubuntu forum, even though my problem could be seen as purely Windows related.

I've recently installed Kubuntu, and now have a dual-boot configuration with Kubuntu and Windows XP. The GRUB bootloader seems to work just fine, but here's the strange thing: every time I want to boot Windows XP AFTER having used Kubuntu, Windows XP hangs and reboots after about three-quarters of the booting process.

I found out that in this situation, Windows XP Safe Mode still works, but not Safe Mode with Network Support. By booting in Safe Mode, and then disabling network support in Device Manager, I can once again boot Windows XP normally. If I then re-enable network support, everything works fine again, and booting is no problem, until the next time I boot to Kubuntu, after which the problem resurfaces.

To summarize then: Kubuntu seems to somehow bork my network adapter, so that I can't boot Windows XP anymore with network support. After making sure WinXP boots WITHOUT network support enabled, I can restore complete functionality.

Any ideas what the hell is going on here, anyone?

    Thanks very much in advance!

    System specs:

mainboard: ABIT NF7 (nforce2 chipset, built-in network adapter)
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+
    Graphics: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Working...
