    kernel update fails sound

I'm not a computer person, particularly.

Tonight I installed Kubuntu 6.06 for the first time.  Kernel 2.6.15-23-386 showed in GRUB. The sound worked. Immediately after this initial install, Adept indicated that there were updates to do, so I did them.  According to GRUB a new kernel was among those updates.  This kernel is 2.6.15-25-386.  I have no sound with this kernel.

Thanks to GRUB, I can elect either the 23 or 25 version.  And sure enough, when I go back to 23 the sound comes back.

Is there anyway I can 'adjust' 25 so that it will produce sound?  Are there suggestions as to how to manage this situation?  Thank you.

I had the same problem. I got it going by going to a konsole prompt and typing "alsamixer", arrowing over to the PCM input and hitting "m" to unmute it. Hope this helps.
