Changed mem size on PC now Kubuntu hangs at boot

I'm pretty new to linux distros in general and Kubuntu in particular.

I noticed this on a couple of older IBM 300PL's in which I was swapping memory in and out between them.

I had a great installation of Kubuntu on both. After acknowledging the mem size change in the BIOS just before the Grub boot loader came up and started loading Kubuntu, it finishes the first part of the blue Kubuntu loader and then hangs.

I tried booting the second and had similar results. I can't confirm my theory about the mem size change because I can't remember exactly what I had in there prior to these problems.

Check That the speeds on your mem are all the same. I was having the same problem and i found that i had installed 2 pc133 128 mb boards and a pc100 128mb board. i swapped out the pc100 with a pc 133 and every thing works fine. just my 2 cents.

If you see a grub display (comment out hiddenmenu and set "timeout = 10" or more in /boot/grub/menu.lst), you'll see an option called memtest86+. If you can run that it will tell you how much memory you REALLY have. It takes a while though.
