Want to use Live only with external USB persistant home.

A friend of mine has a laptop with a dead Harddrive, at the moment there is not enough money to buy a new Harddrive, however he has a PalmOne Lifedrive PDA with 4GB drive, that can be used as a USB Harddrive also.

    So my question.
Is it possible to boot the live cd, and then use the PDA to store modifications/updates/home drive etc?

Is this possible and if yes then how?

    Regards,
    Brian

It's certainly possible with the Kubuntu Dapper Desktop CD. I don't know how well it works. there are some instructions for running the Ubuntu Live CD with a persistent home on the Ubuntu wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDPersistence Because the instructions are all run from the command line, it doesn't matter whether you use KDE or Gnome. They are specific to a USB flash drive, but if the Palm device can masquerade as a USB hard drive it may work. The problem, if any, will occur in the step where you have to reformat the hard drive for Linux. That may kill the Palm.

Hmm, well formatting is not an option, he uses the PDA.
Well I guess he will just have to move data to it manually.

      Thanks.
