Here's an easy one for you. I installed 6.06 official and I have no recollection of setting a root password so I have no way of making changes or even moving files.
How do I login as 'root'?
We use sudo for admin tasks https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo
You simply use the password of the first user you created for anything requiring admin privileges
