I upgraded to Dapper this morning (using update-manager as mentioned on the UBuntu site) and in the middle of the upgrade my system locked up. I couldn't Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+Dlt out of it or anything so I did an Alt+SysRqs+rseiub to reboot. My kernel was hosed so I had to reboot several times picking different kernels from Grub to get to a decent command line. Once I got a good cmd line I tried apt-get dist-upgrade which reported that the upgrade had been interrupted and to run "dpkg --config -a" manually. That seemed to pickup where it left off but when it finished I rebooted and KDM wouldn't come up. It seems my Video dirver is not installed now. I left my live disks at home and had to boot into my broken Mepis partition just to get this message posted. Could someone tell me how to re-install my NVidia driver from the cmd line so I can try to get things working again?

Re: Help! I upgraded to Dapper and broke everything!
Hi,
Maybe you should just try to reconfigure xserver-xorg to get it ok.
First make a copy of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf in case it will go wrong and then launch the command :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Re: Help! I upgraded to Dapper and broke everything!
I fixed it! Whew! That was scary! I ran apt-get install nvidia-glx and that fixed everything! I still feel funny about the way the upgrade went but everything seems to be back to normal. The KDM splash screens look more polished too. I dunno why the Grub splash looks weaker than it did in Breezy though...
